ArtNexus Party features Dance Floor, a site-specific installation and music performance by Iván Navarro
December 5, 2014
On Friday, Dec 5 Paul Kasmin Gallery artist Ivan Navarro unveiled his site-specific installation Dance Floor at the 13th edition of the annual ArtNexus Party during Art Basel Miami Beach 2014. Navarro was commissioned by curator Sofia Casarin, Liaisons Corporation to develop the site-specific installation at Park Grove – Terra Group and The Related Group’s first joint residential development with architecture by OMA/ Rem Koolhaas.
Dance Floor, as the title of the installation suggests, is an interactive space of 3,000 square feet of mirrored floor with an array of suspended transit objects –traffic signal lights and police car bar lights– in conjunction with a live music performance by the artist. The installation overall, reflects on what Navarro calls an “urban theatre”, where objects are de- contextualized from its original urban function and transformed into a new form of public art experience.
The party featured a silent auction curated by ArtNexus Editor and Founder Celia Birbragher to benefit the ArtNexus Foundation with works by Antonio Caro, Cildo Meireles, Julio Le Parc, Miguel Angel Rojas among many others.
The 13th ArtNexus Party was made possible through the support of partners Tui Lifestyle, Warren Henry, Tabacasa, Bacardi, Penfolds and Redbull.
