American Ballet Theatre's Whipped Cream
Performances from May 23 through July 1
On May 23, the American Ballet Theatre will perform Whipped Cream at the Metropolitan Opera House, marking the New York premier of this new production. Mark Ryden conceived backdrops, props and costumes, all of which retain the artist’s meticulous attention to detail and intricate craftsmanship seen throughout his oeuvre. Featuring choreography by Alexei Ratmansky with the original 20th-Century score by Richard Strauss, the ballet centers on a boy who, after overindulging on treats at a pastry shop, falls into a state of delirium in which his candy confections come to life. Whipped Cream will coincide with Mark Ryden: The Art of Whipped Cream featuring preparatory drawings and sketches for Ryden’s collaborative production with American Ballet Theatre.
