Jane Freilicher: Nudes: ADAA: The Art Show

For the 2018 ADAA: The Art Show, Paul Kasmin Gallery presents an intimate selection of female nudes by the late American painter, Jane Freilicher (1924 - 2014), whose estate the gallery now represents. Freilicher, a leading figure of the New York School, was a prolific and much-admired representational artist. This will be the first time her nudes, mostly from the 1960s, will be shown exclusively; many of which have never been exhibited.

Throughout Freilicher’s six-decade career, she revisited traditional subject matter: landscapes, still life, and portraits. Her paintings are steeped in realism and are executed with a light, deft touch from a clean, bright palette. The hallmarks of her pictures—clarity, purity and an unpretentious beauty—are perhaps most succinctly rendered in her nudes.
Freilicher is represented in numerous public collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
