Elliott Puckette: New Paintings

Paul Kasmin Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of new paintings by Elliott Puckette at its 293 Tenth Avenue space.
Puckette’s work is characterized by her incised, purposeful lines, which evoke the curvature of the body, musical notes and 19th century adornment. These lyrical compositions mask their laborious creation, wherein every line is meticulously etched into grounds of ink wash and gesso on wooden panels. Many of Puckette’s new paintings employ a wide range of watery hues—from bright pink and turquoise to deep red and blue— that run and puddle into voluminous abstract forms. In her new black and white paintings, the etched lines appear to rise from a sea of undulating ink dots, creating a strong visual tension between figure and ground.
Elliot Puckette was born in Lexington, Kentucky and received her BFA from Cooper Union in New York. Her work is in a number of public collections, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the New York Public Library, the Fogg Museum, and the Huntsville Museum of Art. She lives and works in Brooklyn.
