Ali Banisadr: Recent Acquisitions

Kasmin is delighted to announce two acquisitions of work by Ali Banisadr by North American institutions: a large-scale painting Language of the Birds, 2018, by The Hirshhorn Museum, Washington D.C; and seven works of ink on paper titled SEVEN Series, 2017, by the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia.

Ali Banisadr’s densely populated paintings are influenced by the artist’s perception of sound as inextricably linked to color and form. Drawing on childhood experiences of the Iran-Iraq war in his native Tehran (where explosions and other aural disturbances were commonplace) as well as his extant synesthesia, Banisadr works painstakingly and intuitively to build complex compositions that exude a vitality at once turbulent and celebratory. The work entering the Hirshhorn’s permanent collection was given by the Noshirvani family in 2019.

Ali Banisadr lives and works in New York City. The artist has recently been the subject of solo museum exhibitions at the Museo Stefano Bardini & Palazzo Vecchio, Florence; the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum, Hartford, CT; the Benaki Museum, Athens; Gemäldegalerie, Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna, and Het Noordbrabants Museum, Den Bosch, Netherlands. In 2013, his work was included in “Love Me/Love Me Not, Contemporary Art from Azerbaijan and its Neighbors,” The 55th International Art Exhibition, Venice Biennale, and “Expanded Painting,” Prague Biennale 6.

Banisadr’s work is included in significant public collections worldwide, including the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo, NY; the British Museum, London; Centre Pompidou, Paris; Het Noordbrabants Museum, Den Bosch, Netherlands; Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C.; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; Museum der Moderne, Salzburg; the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, Hartford, CT.

Though it marks the first solo show in New York for the London-based painter, Foster’s presence feels neither new nor foreign. Announcing Alma Allen on Park Avenue

Kasmin, in collaboration with The Sculpture Committee of The Fund for Park Avenue and NYC Parks’ Art in the Parks, announces an exhibition of 10 major sculptures by Alma Allen (b. 1970, Utah), which will be installed along Park Avenue in New York from May until September 2025. Unique bronze and onyx sculptures, including examples reaching over 10 feet tall and realized especially for the exhibition, will be on view at eight sites that span nearly 20 blocks of the Park Avenue Malls between East 52nd and East 70th Streets. This public exhibition is Allen’s largest outdoor installation to date.
